Brian Penn to Now Vie for State Title and Scholarship

New Rochelle, NY (April 19, 2022) – Selected among three outstanding youth, Brian Penn has been named the Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle (BGCNR). The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle.

Now in its 75th year, the Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe- inspiring young people on their path to great futures. Brian will go on to vie for the New York State Youth of the Year title and a $2,500 college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

“We are so fortunate to have Brian representing the club. He has been a leader and role model for our members and personifies resilience, tenacity, and grit. We congratulate him and look forward to all of the great things in his future,” said Becky Mazzanobile, CEO, Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.

Brian has been the prime example of what a club member is. Throughout his Boys & Girls Club journey, he has taken advantage of all the opportunities that have been offered to him, from his participation in Passport to Manhood (a small group exploring members’ journeys into manhood), and Keystone (a club dedicated to leadership and community service) to our Drama Matters productions, and has made an immediate impact at our club and community.

Should Brian be named as the New York State Youth of the Year, he will vie for the title of Northeast Regional Youth of the Year and an additional $20,000 college scholarship. Five regional finalists, along with the National Military Youth of the Year, will advance to the National Youth of the Year event in Los Angeles in October 2022, to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will earn an additional scholarship of $50,000 and a new Toyota Corolla.

The Youth of the Year program is supported by Toyota and Mondelēz International. As our “Signature Sponsor,” Toyota is committed to partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to ensure local clubs provide life-enhancing opportunities for kids and teens to explore, develop, and apply the essential skills they need to be successful in life and work.
